Kim Soffe

return to Life Stories

Kim SoffeKim Soffe and partner Steve recently visited SDBTT. Kim (on the right) is pictured with Angela Dickson in the garden. Kim was diagnosed on 18th February 2004 with a brain tumour. This was the first Kim knew that she had a brain tumour. Over the previous couple of years, Kim had been suffering from seizures which started in the form of hot flushes and her GP thought she might be going through an early menopause. After various tests, the seizures stopped. Then, a few months later Kim started to have different seizures in the form of heart pounding, feeling sick, the palms of her hands and soles of her feet throbbing and had a strange vapour in the back of her throat. Kim's GP concentrated on her heart and sent her for an ECG and her heart was monitored for a week in order to ascertain whether something was abnormal.

On 16th February 2004, Kim collapsed at work and was taken to St. Richard's Hospital in Chichester where a CT scan revealed she had a brain tumour. A week later Kim heard that the brain tumour was inoperable and that she probably had 5 years to live. However, Kim's consultant believed the tumour was operable and a second opinion was sought and agreed. On 17th May, Kim had an operation which removed about 75% of the tumour. Kim is in remission and will be monitored very closely.

Kim is a very strong character and knows her own strength, so that together with support from her partner, Steve, her family and friends and the help and support of the SDBTT, she is determined to dig her heels in and there is no way this “thing” will beat her.

Steve and friend Jack have completed the Chichester Bike Ride in a respectable 3 hours 45 minutes raising £500 for the charity. Well done both of you and we hope you didn't wear out the pedals!!

Kim is determined to STAY POSITIVE!
