Ellie and Cassie, twins, were born 1988. An older brother, Adam and a younger sister, Natalie completed the picture and they were a very happy family until 2001 when tradegy struck. Ellie was diagnosed with a Grade IV Glioblastoma brain tumour for which there was no cure. Ellie went through a 6 hour long operation and radiotherapy which only slowed the growth for a few months.
Like most patients diagnosed with a terminal illness, Ellie proved to have strength that was beyond belief. She tried to carry on with her life attending school whenever she could, went to parties and sleepovers, shopping and to the beach. She even managed to go to a pop concert with her twin sister. The Round Table Children's Wish granted her wish to swim with the dolphins in Tenerife. Her main motivation was to be with her friends and to be treated normally.
Sadly, Ellie lost her year long battle in 2002 at the age of 14. Her parents and family set up the trust to raise funds in the Suffolk area for families struggling with cancer, and at the same time supporting the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust brain tumour research programme.
Funds from Ellie's Trust will be going towards Professor John Darling's research programme at The University of Wolverhampton into "The development of novel toxin cargo delivery systems for glioblastoma multiforme". This is obviously a research programme very close to the hearts of the Savage family.
