Lawrence Hardingham

return to Life Stories

Lawrence Hardingham Lawrence Hardingham was diagnosed in December 2003, one month before the birth of his son Wesley. On investigation two low grade Oligodendrogliomas were diagnosed and rather predictably turned his life upside down.

Lawrence says, 'At just 35 years old the thought of a terminal illness just before the dawn of my son's life was all very surreal. At the outset of my diagnosis negative information from the medical profession left my emotions 'in tatters'. However, Wesley's birth became the catalyst for drive back into mainstream existence. He made me realise with the help of my wife that in Wesley's eyes his Daddy was still capable of anything.

At the same time SDBTT was a fountain of support empowering me in so many ways when so much seemed to have been taken away from me.

It's been a bumpy road but so far my scans have shown no change, my epilepsy is under control and I have just regained my driving licence. I'm realistic about my future but, with a little help along the way, I'm full of hope that Wesley and I will have many great times together.'

Sadly, an earlier skin cancer (unconnected to the brain tumour) recurred and spread in 2007 and led to two aggressive spinal tumours which finally took Lawrence's life in July 2007.
